Layer Minerals
Posted by Rahat Mobeen on January 14, 2025 at 10:29 amIn layer Ca, absorption is affected by the particle size of limestone/ calcium carbonate. Can you suggest a particle size for better absorption?

The particle size decreased slightly with the decrease in CO2 bubble size, and decrease in CO2 concentration.

Calcium source like limestone for layers with a particle size between 2 and 4 mm should represent 50% to 60% of the entire calcium source for laying hens.

The rest of the limestone can be of smaller particle size. Limestone of larger particle sizes dissolve slower and therefore release calcium at a slower rate allowing a more constant source of calcium for layer, particularly during the night hours when the egg shell is deposited.

The smaller the particle size, the less calcium is absorbed.
