balanced ration , proper light intensity, avoid vent pecking

Calcium deficiency in the diet can cause challenges with eggshell formation and can also lead to low muscle tone results in prolapse. If you find a bird with prolapsed vent, you must take immediate action to remove and isolate it.
-
- Early or Excessive Egg Laying – Overweight pullets or early egg production can cause prolapse.
- Large Eggs or Double Yolkers – Straining to lay large eggs increases the risk.

- Obesity – Excess fat around the vent reduces muscle tone.
- Poor Lighting Management – Long or inconsistent light exposure leads to early maturity.
- Vent Pecking – Can worsen prolapse due to stress and injury.
Solutions & Medications:
- Immediate Care: Isolate the affected bird, clean the prolapsed tissue with warm saline, and apply antiseptic or sugar solution to reduce swelling.
- Manual Correction: Gently push the prolapse back and apply hemorrhoidal ointments.
- Diet Management: Ensure balanced calcium and phosphorus levels, adequate fiber, and controlled protein intake.
- Lighting Control: Maintain a consistent lighting schedule to prevent early maturity.
- Antibiotics (if infection occurs): Amoxicillin or tetracyclines under veterinary supervision.
- Culling: Severe cases may require culling to prevent flock-wide issues.
