Poultry metabolic diseases, which are not infectious but stem from metabolic dysfunctions, include conditions like ascites, sudden death syndrome, fatty liver hemorrhagic syndrome, and skeletal disorders, impacting growth and production.

Metabolic diseases in poultry are caused by disruptions in the normal metabolic processes of the bird’s body. These diseases can affect the growth, reproduction, and overall health of poultry. Some common metabolic diseases in poultry include:
1. Gout: Caused by the accumulation of uric acid in the joints and kidneys due to kidney malfunction, dehydration, or poor diet, leading to painful swelling and limping.
2. Fatty Liver Hemorrhagic Syndrome (FLHS): Often seen in laying hens, it occurs when excess fat accumulates in the liver, causing it to rupture, leading to internal bleeding and death.
3. Rickets/Osteomalacia: Caused by a deficiency in calcium, phosphorus, or vitamin D, leading to weakened bones in young birds (rickets) and softening of bones in adult birds (osteomalacia).
4. Coccidiosis: Though primarily a parasitic disease, it affects metabolism by causing severe damage to the intestines, leading to nutrient malabsorption and imbalanced metabolism.
5. Hypocalcemia (Egg-Binding Syndrome): Often occurring in laying hens, this condition arises from calcium deficiency, leading to difficulty in laying eggs, and can result in the egg being retained within the reproductive tract.
6. Nutritional Myopathy (Exudative Diathesis): Caused by vitamin E and selenium deficiencies, leading to muscle weakness and lesions in the heart and skeletal muscles.
7. Obesity: Poor management of feed intake or overfeeding can lead to obesity in poultry, affecting metabolism and causing issues like fatty liver and reproductive problems.
