This process allows their reproductive system to rest and rejuvenate, leading to improved egg quality and production when they resume laying.
In commercial poultry farming, forced molting is sometimes used to synchronize and extend the laying cycle of hens. By inducing molting through controlled feed and light management, farmers can help hens recover from fatigue, replenish calcium reserves, and improve eggshell quality. After molting, hens usually lay more efficiently for an additional period before their productivity naturally declines.
