Mycotoxins in soy

A recent study (February 2026) found that batches of soybean meal imported to the Middle East contained detectable levels of aflatoxins and fumonisins, even when the grains showed low visible damage. These mycotoxins, though not lethal, affect vaccine response and increase mortality from heat stress in broilers. In your experience, which mycotoxin tests do you perform on soybean meal upon arrival? Have you observed better gut health or reduced antibiotic use when using higher-purity soybean meal?

Mycotoxin control in soybean meal typically includes rapid ELISA or strip tests for aflatoxins and fumonisins on arrival, followed by confirmatory HPLC or LC-MS/MS analysis in some mills

From industry practice, using higher-purity, low-mycotoxin soybean meal is generally linked with better gut health, improved vaccine response, and lower disease pressure in broilers, which can also contribute to reduced need for antibiotics
