Undigested soybean meal and other nutrients present in poultry manure must undergo specific treatments before direct application to earthen fish ponds. While poultry manure is an excellent organic fertilizer, applying it fresh (raw) poses significant risks to water quality and fish health.

Undigested soybean meal (often found in broiler manure due to high feed throughput) can be used in earthen fish ponds, but it should not be applied directly in its raw, fresh state. While nutrient-rich, raw poultry manure can cause severe issues such as high ammonia, oxygen depletion, and pathogenic contamination.
