Pellets are generally easier for animals to consume than mash, as they are a more uniform and palatable form of feed.

Despite the higher processing cost, pelleted feed offers advantages over mash feed, including reduced feed wastage, improved feed density, and better nutrient utilization, leading to enhanced animal growth and feed efficiency.

In theory, pelleted feed should result in better feed efficiency when measured as FCR. However, this advantage is highly dependent on having pellets of good quality with less than 10% of fines. Pellets of poor quality and with more than 10% of fines will likely result in a comparable performance as mash feed but at a higher price. At the end, the most important factor to calculate is the feed cost per birds at the end of a production cycle. Use the feed form (i.e., mash or feed) that is more economically advantageous for you.
