Due to excessive water intake, defects in the crop itself, consumption of course fibrous feed, partial blockage of perpendiculars

Common Causes of Pendulous Crop
1. Overeating or Rapid Consumption of Food – Birds consuming excessive feed, especially dry grains, can lead to crop overload.
2. Impaction (Crop Binding) – Ingestion of fibrous or indigestible materials like long grass, straw, or foreign objects can block the crop.
3. Sour Crop (Candidiasis) – A yeast infection caused by Candida albicans leads to fermentation and fluid accumulation in the crop.
4. Neurological Disorders – Some nerve or muscle dysfunctions can prevent proper crop emptying.
5. Tumors or Physical Obstructions – Growths in the crop or digestive tract can slow down food passage.
6. Dehydration or Lack of Grit – Birds without access to water or grit may struggle to digest food properly.
7. Parasitic Infections – Some parasites, such as capillaria worms, can cause digestive disturbances leading to crop issues.
Preventive Measures
1. Balanced Diet – Provide high-quality poultry feed and avoid excessive grains or fibrous materials that can cause impaction.
2. Fresh Water Supply – Ensure birds always have access to clean, fresh water to aid digestion.
3. Grit Availability – Offer insoluble grit (small stones) to help birds grind their food efficiently.
4. Regular Crop Checks – Monitor birds for signs of slow-emptying crops, particularly in the evening when the crop should be empty.
