Pullorum disease, caused by Salmonella enterica pullorum, is a highly contagious, vertically transmitted bacterial infection primarily affecting young chicks and poults, resulting in high mortality (up to 100%). Key signs include white, sticky diarrhea (“pasty butt”), huddling, anorexia, and weakness. While antibiotic treatments exist, control relies on testing, culling carriers, and maintaining strict biosecurity.

Pullorum disease, caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Pullorum (S. pullorum), is a highly contagious, host-specific bacterial infection that primarily causes severe septicemia, high mortality rates (up to 100%), and significant economic losses in young chickens and turkey poults. It was historically known as “bacillary white diarrhea”
