Newcastle Disease (ND) and Avian Influenza (AI) are critical poultry diseases because they:

1. Spread Rapidly: Highly contagious, transmitted through aerosols, direct contact, and contaminated materials.
2. Cause High Mortality: Virulent strains can kill up to 100% of affected birds.
3. Economic Impact: Lead to reduced production, trade bans, and costly control measures.
4. Zoonotic Risk: AI (e.g., H5N1) and ND can affect humans, posing health concerns.
5. Persistent Threat: ND spreads via infected birds and equipment, while AI is maintained in wild bird reservoirs.
