Keep poultry and their equipment outside of the house, especially in areas where food is prepared.

Keep young poultry away from family living spaces.

Disinfect areas where feeders, water containers, and cages are cleaned.

Proper safety practices are essential when handling poultry to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure health and hygiene. Here are key safety tips:

    1. Storage

Refrigeration: Store poultry at 40°F (4°C) or below in the refrigerator. Use a leak-proof container to prevent raw juices from contaminating other foods.

Freezing: If not used within 1-2 days, freeze poultry at 0°F (-18°C) to keep it safe for longer periods.

Thawing: Thaw poultry in the refrigerator, under cold running water, or in the microwave, but never at room temperature.

    2. Handling

Wash Hands: Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds before and after handling raw poultry.

    Avoid Cross-Contamination:

Use separate cutting boards, knives, and utensils for raw poultry and other foods.

Keep raw poultry away from ready-to-eat foods.

    3. Preparation

Do Not Wash Raw Poultry: Washing can spread bacteria through splashing. Cooking kills bacteria effectively.

Marinating: Marinate poultry in the refrigerator, not on the counter. Discard leftover marinade or boil it before using it as a sauce.

Ensure personal hygiene, proper use of protective gear, biosecurity measures, gentle bird handling, clean feed and water, well-ventilated housing, and regular health checks to maintain safety in poultry handling.
