Stress management is crucial in poultry farming because stress negatively affects bird welfare, immune function, and productivity. Proper stress management strategies can help prevent diseases, improve growth, and enhance overall poultry welfare. Here’s how:

    1. Environmental Stress Management

Temperature Control: Maintain optimal temperatures to prevent heat or cold stress. Use fans, foggers, and proper ventilation.

Ventilation: Ensure fresh air circulation to remove ammonia and moisture buildup, reducing respiratory diseases.

Lighting Management: Use appropriate light intensity and duration to regulate bird behavior and reduce aggression.

    2. Nutritional Stress Reduction

Balanced Diet: Provide nutritionally complete feed with essential vitamins (A, C, E) and minerals (selenium, zinc) to support the immune system.

Hydration: Always provide clean, fresh water to prevent dehydration-related stress.

Feed Quality: Avoid mycotoxins and feed spoilage, which can cause stress and disease.

    3. Social & Behavioral Stress Management

Stocking Density: Avoid overcrowding to reduce competition, aggression, and stress.

Enrichment: Use perches, pecking blocks, and varied environments to reduce boredom and aggressive behavior.

Minimizing Handling Stress: Train workers to handle birds gently, reducing fear and injury.

    4. Disease Prevention & Biosecurity

Vaccination & Health Programs: Implement scheduled vaccinations and disease monitoring to prevent outbreaks.

Strict Biosecurity: Limit farm access, disinfect equipment, and quarantine new birds to prevent infections.

Parasite Control: Regularly check and treat for mites, lice, and worms that can stress birds.

    5. Reducing Transport & Processing Stress

Careful Transport: Reduce handling, provide proper ventilation, and avoid rough transportation to prevent injuries.

Pre-Slaughter Stress Reduction: Minimize waiting times, use humane catching methods, and maintain calm environments before slaughter.
