    1. Preparation:

Wash your hands: Before handling raw poultry, wash hands with hot, soapy water for at least 20 seconds.

Use separate cutting boards: Don’t mix raw poultry with other foods on the same cutting board; use separate ones.

Thoroughly clean: Wash and sanitize all utensils, countertops, and cutting boards that have come into contact with raw poultry with hot, soapy water.

    2. Cooking:

Never rinse: Do not rinse poultry under water before cooking, as this can spread bacteria.

Cook to a safe temperature: Ensure poultry is cooked to a minimum internal temperature of 165 degree F (74 degree C) to kill bacteria. Use a food thermometer to check the temperature in the thickest part of the thigh or breast, or in the center of stuffing.

    3. Storage:

Proper refrigeration: Store raw poultry in the refrigerator at 40 degree F (4.4 degree C) or below to prevent bacterial growth.

Keep raw poultry separate: Store raw poultry in a separate container or plastic bag to prevent juices from dripping onto other foods.

Use a separate cutting board: If possible, use a separate cutting board for raw meat and chicken to prevent cross-contamination.

Thawing: Thaw frozen poultry safely in the refrigerator or microwave, according to USDA guidelines.

    4. Serving:

Don’t reuse marinades: Do not reuse marinades used on raw poultry unless they have been boiled first.

Prevent cross-contamination: Avoid placing cooked poultry on a plate that previously held raw poultry.
