Low humidity in an incubator causes excessive moisture evaporation from eggs, resulting in large air cells, dehydrated embryos, and “shrink-wrapped” chicks that are stuck to dry, tough membranes

If humidity is too low in an incubator, developing embryos lose too much moisture, causing the air cell to become too large, the internal membrane to dry and harden (shrink-wrap), making it difficult or impossible for the chick to break through and hatch, often leading to it dying in the shell. This results in a poor hatch rate, smaller, weaker chicks that can’t fully develop or hatch, or death before or during pipping.
