Feed them in the cool hours of the day…. early morning and evening time… water should be available all the time

If birds are fed during the cool part of the day, feed consumption will be higher. Birds should not be fed during the afternoon in periods of hot weather since this will increase the amount of body heat that they must dissipate and thus increase the potential for heat prostration.

Managing feeding during hot weather is crucial to ensure birds receive adequate nutrition while minimizing heat stress. Here are some tips to help manage feeding in summer:

    1. Provide cool water: Ensure access to plenty of fresh, cool water to help birds regulate their body temperature.

    2. Offer electrolyte-rich water: Add electrolytes like potassium, sodium, or commercial electrolyte powders to water to help replace lost salts.

    3. Feed during cooler hours: Feed birds during early morning or late evening when temperatures are lower.

    4. Increase feed frequency: Divide daily rations into smaller, more frequent meals to reduce heat stress.

    5. Choose heat-tolerant feed: Select feed formulations that are designed for hot weather, with ingredients that help birds cope with heat stress.

    6. Provide shade: Ensure birds have access to shaded areas to escape direct sunlight.

    7. Monitor feed intake: Keep a close eye on feed consumption and adjust feeding strategies as needed.

    8. Avoid overfeeding: Reduce feed amounts if birds are not consuming their usual amounts to prevent spoilage and waste.

    9. Use misting or fogging systems: Consider using misting or fogging systems to reduce temperatures and maintain humidity.

    10. Consult a nutritionist: Work with a poultry nutritionist to develop a heat-stress management plan tailored to your specific operation.

By implementing these strategies, you can help minimize the impact of hot weather on bird feed intake and maintain their overall health and well-being.

Feeding the birds at cool hours of the day, and while making sure the pen is well ventilated and artificial cooling system can be put in place.
