1. Current Average Yields in Africa (per hectare):
Nigeria: ~1.2 to 1.5 tons/ha
Ghana: ~1.0 to 1.3 tons/ha
Zambia: ~1.8 to 2.2 tons/ha
Uganda: ~1.2 to 1.6 tons/ha
South Africa: ~1.9 to 2.3 tons/ha (highest due to mechanization)
Malawi: ~1.0 to 1.4 tons/ha1. Current Average Yields in Africa (per hectare):

2. Optimum Yield Potential (Improved Practices)
Under good agronomic practices (GAP), improved seed varieties, and proper pest and soil management, the optimum yield potential is:
3.0 to 4.5 tons/ha, achievable in many African countries
In demonstration plots and research stations: up to 5.0 tons/ha.

Africa’s low contribution to the global volume of soybean grown is also due to low grain yield. For example, while the annual soybean yield in the United States was 3.33 t·ha–1 in 2022–2023, that in Africa was less than 1.50 t·ha–1 [17

From my experience, I will say on an average of 2 tonnes/hectar

Soybean yields in Africa vary significantly, with some countries achieving yields comparable to global averages while others lag behind. Egypt, using irrigation, leads with over 3 metric tons per hectare, while other top producers like Ethiopia and Zambia average 2.2 and 1.8 metric tons per hectare, respectively. South Africa, a major producer, averages 1.7 metric tons per hectare. Many other African countries, however, have yields below 1 metric ton per hectare.

Although the yield record varies based on the data source and country. Thus, a range is more ideal and it ranges between 1ton/ha to 2ton/ha

Africa has an average yield of about 1.5tons per hectare

Are African countries net importer of Soya? If yes, GM soya or NON GM soya?
-
Africa largely has a low contribution to the yield of soybeans globally. This is due to low grain yield. For instance in Nigeria’s Benue state – the highest soybean producing state, it is about 1.27 tonnes per acre compared to the united states that has about far above this.
