This was a very good question posed by Jeffery and the answers that were generated are good – talk of 1st and 2nd limiting Amino Acids is good – but are we concerned about, just the presence of the AA or the digestibility of the AA? Overall digestible AA content and the ratio of the AAs to one another are important factors in poultry nutrition

Great answers. So far only lysine, methionine, and threonine have been mentioned. What about the other amino acids? What about glycine, or isoleucine, or serine, or histidine, or glutamine, etc? We have 21 amino acids in the genetic code, which one is the most important in poultry? Again, think about absorption snd metabolism and not only about the amino acids normally supplemented in the diets of poultry. Keep the answers and ideas coming…

Methionine. Methionine plays an important role in the optimum growth performance of poultry and is involved in feather synthesis, important biochemical processes (as a methylgroup donator) and muscle accretion

The balancing of amino acids, especially in the formulation of poultry feeds, is very essential as regards improving feed efficiency, which will as well prevent deficiencies.

Lysine and methionine are the most important amino acid in Poultry as the most limiting and improving carcass quality respectively.

In poultry feed formulation, the balance of all amino acids relative to each other (ideal protein concept) is critical to prevent deficiencies, optimize feed efficiency, and minimize environmental nitrogen waste
